HAVE A GREAT MABON SABBAT

Also known as Harvest Home, this Sabbat is named for Mabon, the Divine Youth of antiquity who was hidden yet ever remains as the Sun. His name literally means 'son'.

Mabon (Harvest Home, Autumn Equinox) is a celebration of Thanksgiving for the blessings and abundance of the year, for the food, clothing and shelter which sustains us now and will continue to sustain us through the quiet, dark months of Winter.

It is the time of the last preparations before the coming of darkness in Winter. As such, it is also the time to prepare the spirit for an interval of introspection and inner growth.

CONJUR CRAFT: HOODOO, ROOTWORK AND CONJURING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

by Stephanie Rose Bird

(Reprinted by permission from Llewellyn Publications)

Once upon a time, we were Africans, involved in a unique lexicon of beliefs, lore, stories, and customs designed to help integrate us into an environment filled with plants, animals, elements, and a complex array of spirits.

Popularly called both hoodoo and voodoo by the uninformed, the term is of mysterious origins, most likely the creation of the media as an adulteration of Vodoun.

To stay true to the origins of Hoodoo will attempt to incorporate as much tradition as realistically feasible. As we blend, we seek a balance between the old ways with modern ethics and contemporary technology. Our goal is to honor the Earth Mother and our ancestors as we work our roots in a respectful way.

MAGICK AND REIKI: WHEN TWO PATHS BECOME ONE

by Mickie Mueller

Reiki is a healing modality, and it is deceptively simple, and simply powerful.

I have learned on my own to use Reiki in most of my magic, I have found that Reiki turbo-charges my magick! I use it to help me cleanse my circle, as the energy has a purifying quality. It is also very beneficial when consecrating ritual tools.

You see, Reiki can only be used for the higher good, so it easily fits right in with The Rede, in harming none.
