MAY'S ASTROLOGICAL TRENDS by Ingrid Jeffries
The goddess of love and beauty, Venus, rules the month of May. She is the planetary ruler of Taurus and Gemini (esoterically). In an earlier age May was a time for the wedding negotiations that followed the fertility festival of Beltane. Wedding dowries were agreed upon for the nuptials that would take place during the summer months. Summer weddings were (and remain) most common because the longer hours of daylight and warmer weather north of the equator provided easier travel to those who were on foot or horseback.
by Karen Charboneau-Harrison Long associated with wizards and magicians, the second of the four Major Tools of magick is the Wand. Its primary use is to channel, concentrate and direct energy. You have most likely seen the Magician card in the tarot with the image of a Mage directing energy through his Wand as well as the many images of Merlin wielding this powerful tool. The Wand is a symbol of the element Air, concentration, power, healing, archetypal masculine energy, the scepter of power of the ruling Monarch, the divine phallus and the intellect. We move into ecstasy, You and I. You are the seed at the center of every dream I’ve ever dreamt. You are the vision of my heart. Your Name was writ upon my soul before the foundations of the world were laid. You are my first and final breath. I fall into the bliss of Your being and just melt away.
Prayer is that avenue by which we speak with Deity. Ideally it brings us to a place where even words fail, and we stand open and naked to the ravishing love of the Object of our desire. From 800 to 1050 C.E., coastal villages throughout the British Isles prayed nightly, "Lord, save us from the Northmen and their awful ships." Long symbolic of force and lawlessness, the Vikings also left a rich legacy of myths and traditions, some still observed today. But who were the gods who inspired the fearless sea raids of their followers, and such modern traditions as Santa Claus? Where are they today?

I have long been a devotee of the Horned God; Cernunnos my Stag. In this article I explore the history of this elusive and interesting deity, and then delve into some of the mysticism surrounding him: (1) His traditional titles and (2) how he appears to those who encounter him, (3) how the Stag God presences to us at different times of the earthen year and (4) three sacred days connected with his cult. Finally I explore what it might mean to ‘follow’ Cernunnos today, adventuring through the Wildwoods and Fields of Life under his mystic spell.
FIRE is the element of Will and Passion and is considered an Active element. The direction and quarter of the Circle that corresponds to Fire is the South, which we associate with heat. The season is, of course, summer ... the time of growth and culmination of that growth. In the foundations of magick Fire is the Magickal Will. The force of the magickal will enables the magickian to carry through with goals, plans and dreams. Will serves as the impetus for the magickal energy which is sent forth to act on the physical plane to manifest the desire.
